Bhuvneshwar Kumar Weighs In on Dukes Ball Controversy

The Dukes ball has sparked ongoing debate throughout the India-England Test series, with many critics highlighting its lack of assistance to bowlers. India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has now echoed these concerns. Speaking to Sports Today, he acknowledged that the ball hasn’t provided much movement during the series but admitted he hasn’t been able to pinpoint the exact cause behind it.

He added, “Cricket has changed a lot—whether it’s more aggressive play or pitch preparation, bowlers face tougher challenges. Still, bowlers deserve credit, and I think India are performing well.”
The Dukes ball, manufactured by British Cricket Balls Ltd and owned by Dilip Jajodia, recently underwent a thorough review after criticism that it went soft and lost shape within 30 overs during the series. Jajodia told the BBC, “We will take it away, inspect it, and consult with the tanner about the raw materials. Everything we do will be reviewed, and if changes are needed, we will implement them.”
During the Lord’s Test, India captain Shubman Gill showed visible frustration when the second new ball had to be replaced within the first hour of Day 2. Former England pacer Stuart Broad also expressed concerns over the frequent ball changes, noting they disrupt bowlers’ rhythm and delay the game.
