Asia Cup 2025: Supreme Court refuses urgent hearing on PIL seeking cancellation of India-Pakistan match in Asia Cup

Supreme Court: The match between India and Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup is scheduled for September 14

The Supreme Court today, Thursday, September 11, refused to hear urgently a petition seeking cancellation of the match between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025. It is worth noting that this much-awaited match in the ongoing Asia Cup is scheduled to be held on September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The bench of Justice J.K. Maheshwari and Justice Vijay Bishnoi raised questions about the urgency of this petition. The counsel for the petitioners requested that the petition be heard on Friday, and cautioned that if it is not considered before the match, it will become infructuous.

The match should go on: Supreme Court

Let us tell you that the bench hearing this petition said, as quoted by Daily Mirror Online, “What is the hurry? There is a match, let it happen. The match is this Sunday, what can be done? The match is this Sunday? What can we do in this? Let it be. The match should go on.”

Let us tell you that this petition was filed by Urvashi Jain and three other law students, who argued that organizing a cricket match against Pakistan after the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor would send a message contrary to national dignity and public sentiment.

This petition said, “The purpose of cricket between countries is to display harmony and friendship. But, after the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor, when our people were martyred and our soldiers put everything at stake, playing with Pakistan sent the opposite message that while our soldiers are sacrificing their lives, we are celebrating the game with the same country, which is giving shelter to terrorists.”
