Sudharsan’s Century Outshines Rahul’s as GT Secure Playoff Spot

The 10-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals not only secured playoff spots for RCB and Punjab Kings but also left DC’s chances in doubt.

Sai Sudharsan’s Century Guides Gujarat Titans to Dominant Win Over Delhi Capitals

New Delhi: A masterful century by Sai Sudharsan, combined with an unbeaten opening partnership alongside skipper Shubman Gill, overshadowed a classy hundred from KL Rahul as Gujarat Titans cruised to a commanding 10-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals on Sunday. This win propelled GT back to the top of the IPL 2025 points table.

Coming in as an impact substitute, Sudharsan was flawless throughout his unbeaten 108*, with his 205-run partnership with Gill ensuring the Titans reached their target with an over to spare. With 18 points now secured, GT have confirmed their playoff spot, while Delhi Capitals, needing this match to solidify their place, will now depend on other results despite having two games left. The victory also sealed playoff berths for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings.

The playoffs look increasingly out of reach for the hosts, who have struggled this season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium — suffering their fourth home defeat with just one narrow Super Over win to their name. Their recent strong away form now feels like a distant memory.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans can take great confidence from the form of their top three batsmen, all of whom have scored over 500 runs this season. Sudharsan’s century made him the only player to cross 600 runs in this edition so far. His skipper Gill contributed a stylish 93* off 53 balls, packed with boundaries and sixes.

The night truly belonged to Sudharsan, who impressed last season with 527 runs as well. The 23-year-old southpaw’s impeccable footwork and fearless stroke play against both pace and spin set the tone early, as GT blitzed the chase after DC posted 199/3. Sudharsan’s aggressive approach first targeted T Natarajan before punishing the spinners, ensuring a swift and assured victory.

Gill and Sudharsan Ignite GT’s Chase After KL Rahul’s Masterclass

After the powerplay, Shubman Gill took charge, using his reach and strong wrists to consistently send the spin of Axar Patel, Vipraj Nigam, and Kuldeep Yadav soaring over the top. GT’s hundred came up in the 11th over, but the real onslaught began in the 13th over bowled by Dushmantha Chameera. Gill unleashed a crisp straight drive followed by a towering six over midwicket, while Sai Sudharsan finished the over with a stylish cut, setting the tone for a comfortable chase on a true batting surface.

Earlier, KL Rahul, opening for only the second time this IPL, produced a breathtaking innings blending silky strokes with precision. He remained unbeaten on 112 off 65 balls, including 14 fours and 4 sixes. Rahul’s only unconventional shot came in the final over—a reverse ramp off Mohammed Siraj that luckily resulted in a boundary. Supported well by Abhishek Porel, Rahul’s fifth IPL century was a display of elegant timing and powerful drives, turning a steady start into a commanding innings.

GT’s strong start was backed by Shubman Gill’s correct toss call and the return of Kagiso Rabada from suspension. With pace spearheads Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj, the Titans boasted a formidable bowling attack. In the end, 199 proved to be an ideal target on the Kotla pitch, as the visitors cruised to victory.
