Shreyas Iyer was in sublime touch during IPL 2025, amassing 604 runs in the season. Now, the focus shifts to international cricket as the Indian team prepares for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, set to begin on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The tournament will see eight teams battling it out for the prestigious title.
Unlike the last edition, the Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format this year. According to reports, the Indian selectors are scheduled to meet in Mumbai on August 19 to finalize the squad. Current T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is expected to lead India in the tournament.
Shreyas Iyer: Plenty of buzz surrounds India’s squad composition, with several players almost certain to feature. Among them are Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Sanju Samson.
Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh Among Four in Race for Asia Cup 2025 Squad Spot
As per a report by Indian Express, Shreyas Iyer, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, and Washington Sundar are being considered for the final spot in India’s 15-member Asia Cup 2025 squad. Only one of them will make the cut.
Shreyas Iyer, who last featured in a T20I in December 2023, has revived his chances with a stellar IPL 2025 season. Leading Punjab Kings (PBKS) to their first final in a decade, he amassed 604 runs in 17 matches at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07—finishing as the sixth-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
Rinku Singh has already established himself as India’s designated finisher in T20Is over the past two years. Meanwhile, Riyan Parag, who captained Rajasthan Royals (RR) in several games due to Sanju Samson’s injury, showed glimpses of brilliance—most notably with back-to-back sixes against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)—but struggled for consistency overall.
Washington Sundar remains a strong contender thanks to his all-round skills. His recent performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 highlighted his value as both a dependable bowler and a handy lower-order batter.
Shreyas Iyer: India, the defending champions, are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. The Men in Blue begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on September 10 against UAE.
