Sai Sudharsan Gears Up for Red-Ball Challenge After Stellar IPL 2025 Season

Sai Sudharsan is preparing to make his transition to red-ball cricket following a remarkable IPL 2025 campaign that showcased his consistency and skill. The left-handed batsman amassed 759 runs at an impressive average of 54.21 for Gujarat Titans, establishing himself as one of the league’s standout performers. Despite his team’s exit in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians, Sudharsan’s attention has already shifted towards the upcoming Test series in England.
Selected in India’s Test squad for the five-match series starting June 20, the 22-year-old had initially been expected to feature in the second unofficial Test for India A against England Lions from June 6. However, with the main squad also scheduled to depart on the same day, Sudharsan’s immediate plans remain uncertain. “We were planning to leave on the 4th from IPL, so we weren’t thinking about when to leave for India A or the Test team. Now, we will have to have a conversation and see how it goes,” he said.
Sudharsan’s previous stint with Surrey in English county cricket has been instrumental in honing his red-ball skills. He credits the technical discipline required in England’s challenging seam conditions for reshaping his batting approach. “I’ve played seven games in county cricket, and it gave me great experience. It improved my batting multiple folds in technique and basics. It taught me that basics are the most important in batting,” he explained.
Confident in the lessons learned, Sudharsan plans to apply this newfound awareness as he prepares for the demanding Test series ahead.
Transition from IPL

With the IPL’s intense white-ball focus now behind him, Sai Sudharsan admitted that readjusting to Test cricket presents its challenges. However, he remains optimistic that the lead-in period will help him reset and refocus.
