The experienced Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman has decided to come out of ODI retirement and will now feature in both the ODI and T20I line-ups for South Africa’s multi-format tour of Pakistan. The series, set to begin next month, includes two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
Quinton de Kock, 32, had retired from Test cricket in 2021 during a series against India, citing personal reasons. Ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, he had announced his intention to retire from ODI cricket following the tournament.
The left-handed star last represented South Africa in T20Is during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and had been absent from the national side for over a year. Across formats, he has played 155 ODIs, 92 T20Is, and 54 Tests for his country.
Over the past year,Quinton de Kock has remained active in franchise T20 leagues, including the SA20, Indian Premier League (IPL), Major League Cricket (MLC), and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Quinton de Kock Included in South Africa’s Squads for Pakistan ODI and T20I Series
On Monday, September 21, South Africa announced their squads for the upcoming Pakistan tour, with Quinton de Kock named in both the T20I and ODI line-ups. David Miller will captain the T20I side, while Matthew Breetzke, who has featured in six ODIs, will lead the ODI team.
Several key players, including Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Wiaan Mulder, and Marco Jansen, have been rested from both formats as part of workload management.
