Eight months after being sidelined by a twisted ankle on the eve of a Ranji Trophy match featuring Virat Kohli, Ayush Doseja finally made his first-class debut in style. The MBA student scored a breathtaking 209 off 279 balls, guiding Delhi to 529/4 against Hyderabad at the NextGen Cricket Ground.

Adding to his remarkable redemption story, Ayush Doseja shared a 319-run fourth-wicket partnership with Sanat Sangwan, turning Delhi’s second day into a commanding display. Hyderabad ended the day at 77/1, with the hosts firmly in control of the game.

Ayush Doseja speaks about missing the Kohli game

For Ayush Doseja, missing his debut during the Ranji week featuring Virat Kohli could have been a lingering “what-if.” Instead, he transformed that disappointment into motivation. “Destiny had completely other plans for me,” he told PTI, reflecting on how the chance to share a dressing room “just came and went away.” He added, “As a child, you can only dream of playing alongside Virat sir… getting a double hundred on Ranji debut has lessened that pain of missing a chance to play in Virat sir’s team.”

Doseja credited the long hours spent with Sanat Sangwan in age-group cricket for their 319-run stand. “Me and Sanat have played a lot of cricket together since U-23 and U-24… we knew we can score if we play positive cricket,” he explained. Delhi’s management later declared and threw the new ball late, giving Doseja more opportunities to dominate.

Balancing cricket with academics, Doseja is pursuing an MBA from a private university in Meerut while making his mark on the field. He revealed he recently attended Delhi Capitals trials and was invited by Mumbai Indians for trials in October, but chose to prioritize Ranji duty.

Doseja’s feat came just hours after Goa’s Abhinav Tejrana also scored a debut double century, creating a rare twin occurrence that lit up the opening round of the tournament. From the frustration of a freak ankle twist to a record-breaking debut, Doseja’s journey underscores resilience and preparation. Coach Ajay Chaudhary, who has tracked him since Doseja was under 10, praised his attacking mindset on debut. For Delhi, it’s an ideal start to the season, and for Doseja, a perfect beginning to a promising career.
