Rishabh Pant Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2025 After Foot Fracture in Manchester Test
India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been sidelined from the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 due to a fractured toe sustained during the Manchester Test against England. According to The Times of India, Rishabh Pant will be out of action for at least six weeks, missing both the Asia Cup in Abu Dhabi and potentially the two-match Test series against the West Indies in October.
The injury occurred on Day 1 of the Manchester Test when Rishabh Pant attempted a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes and broke his right foot. Visibly in pain, he had to be carted off the field. Remarkably, he returned the next day to score a gritty half-century despite the injury. However, Dhruv Jurel took over wicketkeeping duties, and Pant batted lower down the order in the second innings.
Rishabh Pant recent form has also been a concern. Leading Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025, he managed just 269 runs in 13 innings, with his only standout being an unbeaten 118 against eventual champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. LSG finished seventh, failing to qualify for the playoffs.
While surgery is not required, the rehabilitation timeline rules him out of the Asia Cup and casts doubt over his readiness for the West Indies series, scheduled from October 2–14 in Ahmedabad and Delhi.
For the Asia Cup 2025, India have been drawn into Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. The tournament, played in T20 format to prepare for the 2026 T20 World Cup, kicks off for India on September 10 against UAE. The much-anticipated India–Pakistan clash is set for September 14 in Dubai, followed by their final group match against Oman on September 19.
