Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) officially announced that their overseas spinner, Adam Zampa, has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The Australian leg-spinner featured in two matches earlier in the tournament as an Impact Player but subsequently missed four consecutive games.

Zampa struggled in his limited appearances, conceding 48 runs in SRH’s opener against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and 46 runs in his second outing against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He managed to claim two wickets across these two matches, finishing with an economy rate of 11.75.
In light of Zampa’s injury-enforced exit, SRH have brought in Smaran Ravichandran as his replacement for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old has been signed for INR 30 lakhs. Unlike Zampa, Smaran is a left-handed batsman and represents Karnataka in Indian domestic cricket, offering a fresh dynamic to the SRH squad.
Adam Zampa Ruled Out of IPL 2025 Due to Shoulder Injury
It was officially confirmed on Monday that Adam Zampa would miss the remainder of IPL 2025. While the initial statement from the IPL’s official website didn’t specify the reason for his withdrawal, it has now been revealed that the Australian leg-spinner is sidelined due to a recurrence of a shoulder injury.
Zampa, who featured in the first two matches of the season, began experiencing discomfort in his shoulder, prompting his return to Australia for further medical treatment. This is the same shoulder issue that troubled him ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Despite the setback, he recovered in time to play a crucial role in Australia’s World Cup-winning campaign, finishing as the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker.
Initially, there was hope that Zampa could return to IPL 2025 following a medical assessment. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by Pat Cummins, opted to replace him with Karnataka batter Smaran.
As it stands, SRH have played six matches this season, securing two wins and suffering four losses. With four points to their name, they currently sit ninth on the points table. Their next fixture is against Mumbai Indians on Thursday, April 17, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
