IPL 2025: Vaibhav Suryavanshi switched off his phone after receiving 500 missed calls post century

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2025. Rajasthan Royals (RR) played their final match of the IPL 2025 season on Wednesday, May 20, against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In the 62nd game of the tournament, RR chased down a target of 188 runs, with opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi scoring a crucial half-century to lead the team to a six-wicket victory and end their campaign on a high note.

Despite the win, it was a disappointing season overall for Sanju Samson’s side, as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. However, there were a few bright spots—most notably the emergence of young talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi as a promising batter.

The left-handed batter impressed in his debut season, amassing 252 runs in seven matches at an outstanding strike rate of 206.55. His performances included a blistering century and a half-century, marking him as one of the breakout stars for RR in 2025.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Received 500 Missed Calls After Historic Century

Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books by becoming the youngest player ever to score a century in IPL history. The 14-year-old prodigy hammered a stunning 101 off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 47 of IPL 2025, leading Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a dominant eight-wicket win while chasing a target of 210.

Following his extraordinary knock, Vaibhav Suryavanshi found himself in the limelight. In a conversation with RR head coach Rahul Dravid, the young opener revealed he received over 500 missed calls but deliberately kept his phone switched off.

“I got more than 500 missed calls, but I had my phone switched off. A lot of people reached out after the century, but I don’t enjoy that kind of attention. I prefer staying away from all of it. I kept my phone off for four days, as I told you. I like being with my family and a few close friends — that’s all,” he shared.

Reflecting on his journey, Vaibhav Suryavanshi said, “I’ve been preparing for the last 3-4 years, and I finally saw the results. I worked on everything that was missing in my game. Things that once seemed difficult started to feel easier. I’ve realized that focus is everything. There’s no such thing as a natural game — you have to play according to the team’s needs and avoid trying too much at this level. I stick to my strengths and aim to win matches for my team.”

Rahul Dravid praised the youngster for his stellar debut season but also offered a word of caution, reminding him that challenges will only grow tougher in the future.

“It’s been a great season. Keep playing the way you did, train well, and stay focused. But remember, next year, bowlers will come better prepared against you. So we’ll also have to train harder and sharpen our skills. Well done,” Dravid said.

Despite Vaibhav Suryavanshi s brilliance, RR had a disappointing season overall. They finished ninth on the points table with just 8 points, managing only four wins in 14 matches. The team missed regular captain Sanju Samson for most of the season due to recurring injuries, with Riyan Parag stepping in as skipper.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the leading run-scorer for RR in IPL 2025, amassing 559 runs. Parag followed with 393 runs. In the bowling department, Wanindu Hasaranga, Jofra Archer, and Maheesh Theekshana led the way with 11 wickets each.
