Sri Lanka secured their first victory of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 with a commanding win over Bangladesh in the second Test, held at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The match, which concluded on June 28, saw the hosts clinch the two-match Test series 1-0.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Bangladesh managed 247 runs in their first innings. Shadman Islam top-scored with 46, while Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando and Sonal Dinusha each claimed three wickets to restrict the visitors.
ICC World Test Championship: In response, Sri Lanka posted a massive 458-run total, thanks to a stunning 158 from opener Pathum Nissanka. Dinesh Chandimal (93) and Kusal Mendis (84) also made vital contributions. Despite a five-wicket haul from Taijul Islam and three wickets by Nayeem Hasan, Bangladesh struggled to contain the Sri Lankan batting lineup.
Bangladesh’s second innings saw a dramatic collapse as they were dismissed for just 133 runs. Prabath Jayasuriya led the bowling charge for Sri Lanka with a five-wicket haul, helping his team register an innings-and-78-run win.
With this result, Sri Lanka sealed the series 1-0, as the first Test had ended in a draw. Pathum Nissanka was named Player of the Match for his brilliant century and was also awarded Player of the Series for amassing 369 runs across the two Tests.
