The go-ahead for Asia Cup 2025 came following the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Despite some pre-meeting tensions due to strained relations between India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, the meeting proceeded as planned. Members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) participated remotely via online mode. After the meeting, the ACC took some additional time to finalize commercial arrangements with its partners.
Eight teams will compete in the tournament: India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, UAE, and Oman. A total of 19 matches will be played, culminating in the final on the last Sunday of September.
While the complete fixture list is yet to be officially announced, reports from Cricbuzz suggest that arch-rivals India and Pakistan have been drawn in the same group. The tournament will be played in the T20I format, serving as a key preparation ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup next year, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
