According to an ESPNCricinfo report, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lodged an official complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against the two Pakistani players. The complaint, filed via email, accuses Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan of making provocative gestures during the Super Four encounter held on Sunday, September 21, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The ICC has reportedly acknowledged receipt of the complaint.
Asia Cup: Farhan, after reaching his half-century, mimicked a gun gesture by holding his bat like a rifle and firing imaginary shots into the air. Meanwhile, Rauf was seen near the boundary line making airplane-crash motions and signaling “6-0” towards a section of Indian supporters. His gestures appeared to reference Pakistan Army’s claim of downing six Indian Rafale jets during a military conflict earlier in May, under “Operation Sindoor.”
Asia Cup: Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan’s actions caught widespread attention on social media
Videos capturing the gestures of Rauf and Farhan quickly went viral, with many fans criticizing the players for their immature on-field behavior. If both Pakistan players formally deny the allegations in writing, the ICC could hold a hearing to review the matter, potentially requiring them to appear before the second match referee, Richie Richardson.
Asia Cup: At the same time, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has filed an official complaint against Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for dedicating India’s group-stage victory over Pakistan to the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the Indian Armed Forces. The PCB claims that his remarks carried political overtones.
The India vs Pakistan Super Four clash was also marked by several tense moments between Pakistan pacers Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi and Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma.
Asia Cup: India secured a six-wicket win, successfully chasing a target of 172. Gill and Sharma laid the foundation for the victory with a 105-run opening partnership.
