Arshdeep Singh is expected to be included in India’s Test squad for the England series.

Arshdeep Singh is yet to make his Test debut for India. The Indian Cricket Team is set to play a five-match Test series against England starting next month. The first Test is scheduled to begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds, while the series will conclude in the first week of August with the fifth Test at Kennington Oval.

Arshdeep Singh: Following the retirement of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket, the Indian team faces a significant challenge against England, who are known for their dominance in home conditions. Additionally, the Indian selectors must appoint a strong captain to lead the team in the longest format following the exit of former Test captain Sharma.

Shubman Gill has emerged as the leading candidate to captain the Indian Test team. The right-handed batter has been a consistent opener for the team in recent years. Reports suggest that Jasprit Bumrah has already stepped down from captaincy due to uncertainty about playing all five matches in the England series. Bumrah has previously led the Indian team in Sharma’s absence.

Apart from selecting a captain, the Indian selectors face another significant challenge — assembling a formidable pace attack for the upcoming India vs. England Test series. While Jasprit Bumrah is set to spearhead India’s fast-bowling unit against Ben Stokes and his team, he will need strong support in the pace department. According to reports, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is expected to earn a spot in India’s squad for the series against England.

Arshdeep Singh has already established himself in the shortest format of the game, having played 63 T20 matches, where he has taken 99 wickets with an economy rate of 8.30. He has also represented India in nine ODIs. The 26-year-old was included in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year. However, he is yet to make his debut in Test cricket.

In India’s Test lineup, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami are considered vital fast bowlers. However, Siraj struggled to make an impact in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025, Arshdeep Singh, which India lost 3-1. On the other hand, Shami last played a Test match for India in June 2023, during the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 final.
