Kris Srikkanth slammed Ajit Agarkar’s “nonsensical” comment following Shreyas Iyer’s exclusion from the Asia Cup squad, despite the batter’s impressive IPL and white-ball performances.
Shreyas Iyer Omission Sparks Srikkanth’s Criticism of Agarkar
Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has strongly criticised chief selector Ajit Agarkar for leaving Shreyas Iyer out of the Asia Cup squad, calling Agarkar’s explanation “nonsensical.” Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth expressed disbelief that Iyer, in excellent white-ball form with strong IPL and Champions Trophy performances, was excluded from the 15-member squad and even the reserves.
Agarkar had defended his decision by stating there was no fault in Iyer’s performances and questioning who he could replace in the side. Srikkanth, however, highlighted Iyer’s recent stellar run, including 600 IPL runs at a strike rate of 175, insisting that current form should dictate selection.
‘I cannot understand the logic’
Kris Srikkanth also criticised the selection of Sanju Samson in the Asia Cup squad, highlighting his IPL 2025 performance of 285 runs at a strike rate of 140. The former India opener argued that Shreyas Iyer, with superior form, was a better choice for the team.
