Yashasvi Jaiswal urged to tone down aggressive approach after Lord’s setback: ‘One small error can cost your wicket’

Dilip Vengsarkar urged Yashasvi Jaiswal to tone down his aggression and focus on playing each delivery on its merit.

Vengsarkar Urges Yashasvi Jaiswal to Curb Aggression After String of Failures

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been advised by 1983 World Cup winner Dilip Vengsarkar after enduring three consecutive low scores in the ongoing Test series against England. Jaiswal began the series with a century at Headingley but struggled at Lord’s, scoring just 13 in the first innings and a seven-ball duck in the second, the latter dismissal coming from a mistimed pull shot off Jofra Archer.

Vengsarkar, the only overseas batter to feature on the Lord’s honours board thrice, stressed the importance of playing each delivery on merit in Test cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is a good player with a lot of potential, but he needs to curb his aggressive instincts at times. In Tests, a slight mistake and you’re out. Since his hundred, he hasn’t scored much, but consistency is key at the highest level. I expect a lot from him in Test cricket,” Vengsarkar told RevSportz.

‘Shubman Gill’s skill level has been on display throughout the series’

Dilip Vengsarkar brushed aside suggestions that Shubman Gill’s heated exchange with Zak Crawley influenced his performance at Lord’s. Gill, who scored just 12 in the first innings before chasing a wide delivery, faced criticism for playing a rash shot. However, Vengsarkar believes the altercation had no effect on his batting.

I don’t think so. That incident was something Gill felt strongly about, and he made his feelings clear. But it didn’t affect his batting at all. He’s a top-class player, and his temperament and skill have been evident throughout the series. He played superbly at Headingley, and I don’t think the Lord’s incident had any impact on him,” the former India captain told RevSportz.
