Rishabh Pant has made history by becoming the first Indian wicket-keeper batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test match. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken disciplinary action against Pant for breaching the code of conduct on Day 4 of the first Test against England in Leeds.
Rishabh Pant tour of England has started on a high note, with a century in each innings of the match. He is now only the second wicket-keeper batter in Test history, after Andy Flower, to achieve this rare feat — and the first from India.
Rishabh Pant scored 134 runs in the first innings and followed it up with 118 in the second. As India’s Test vice-captain, he played a crucial role in building a commanding 195-run partnership with KL Rahul (137) for the fourth wicket, setting England a challenging target of 371 runs to win the match. Going into the final day, England need 350 runs with all 10 wickets in hand.
Rishabh Pant Penalized by ICC for Umpire Outburst

Despite his brilliant performance with the bat including two centuries during the Headingley Test, Rishabh Pant faced disciplinary action from the ICC for his conduct on the field during England’s first innings.
The incident occurred in the 61st over when Harry Brook and Ben Stokes were at the crease. Pant was seen questioning the condition of the ball with the umpires. When the officials decided not to change the ball after inspecting it with a ball gauge, Pant expressed his frustration by throwing the ball on the ground in front of them, an act that led to him being reprimanded.

Rishabh Pant was found to have breached the rule against “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an International Match,” as outlined in Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
Since this was Pant’s first offense within a 24-month period, one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record. “There was no disciplinary hearing because Pant admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50% of the player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points,” the ICC stated.
The charges were filed by the on-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Paul Reiffel, along with the third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Mike Burns.
