Mohammed Shami Threatened with Death; FIR Filed

Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, has received a death threat from an unknown individual. The revelation came from his brother, Haseeb Ahmed, who opened Shami’s email on Sunday, May 4, to check for important messages. To his shock, he discovered a threatening email.

The message contained a death threat along with a ransom demand of INR one crore. The email was sent from an ID associated with someone named Rajput Sindhar, and it also mentioned an individual named Prabhakar from Bengaluru.

However, Mohammed Shami, brother confirmed that they are unfamiliar with either person. Haseeb, who resides in Sahaspur Ali Nagar, Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh, reported the incident to the local police and provided them with a copy of the email Mohammed Shami.

Amroha’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Amit Kumar Anand, has responded swiftly, forwarding the case to the cyber cell and crime branch. The police have also filed a case against the unknown perpetrators under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Currently, Mohammed Shami is engrossed in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The right-arm pacer has faced challenges in finding his best form throughout the tournament.

Mohammed Shami, has participated in nine games so far, taking six wickets with a best bowling performance of 28/2. Despite his efforts, his average stands at a high 56.16, coupled with an economy rate of 11.23, which has been less than ideal. Furthermore, his team, led by Pat Cummins, has also been eliminated from the playoff race.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were IPL 2016 champions, have managed only three wins and suffered seven losses out of 11 matches played. Their most recent match against Delhi Capitals (DC) ended in a no result due to rain. With just seven points, SRH is positioned eighth in the points table.

Looking ahead, SRH will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 60th match of the season on May 10, to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
