The total prize pool for the Champions Trophy 2025 has risen by 53% to $6.9 million. The winner of the tournament will receive $2.24 million in prize money along with the coveted trophy, set to be awarded on March 9. The runners-up will earn $1.12 million, while the losing semi-finalists will each receive $560,000. This significant increase in prize money comes after the 2017 tournament when Pakistan lifted the trophy at The Oval.
Tournament Format and Financial Incentives
The Champions Trophy will maintain its format with eight teams, divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. Every group match winner will earn over $34,000. Teams finishing fifth and sixth will be awarded $350,000 each, while seventh and eighth-placed teams will take home $140,000 each.
Additionally, each of the eight competing teams is guaranteed $125,000 for participating in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
ICC Chair Jay Shah commented, “The substantial prize pool highlights the ICC’s ongoing investment in the sport and the global prestige of our events. Beyond financial rewards, this tournament sparks intense competition, engages fans worldwide, and contributes to the sustainable growth of cricket for future generations.”
The tournament will kick off on February 19 in Karachi, where hosts Pakistan will face New Zealand. It marks the first ICC tournament in Pakistan since the 1996 World Cup. India’s matches will be held in Dubai due to travel restrictions, with games against Bangladesh on February 20, Pakistan on February 23, and New Zealand on March 2. If India advances to the knockout stages, those matches will also take place in Dubai, with the semi-final scheduled for March 4.
The Champions Trophy will continue every four years, and in 2027, the Women’s Champions Trophy will be introduced in the T20 format.
