WPL 2024 is almost here. After a successful first season in 2023, the second season of Women’s IPL will start on 23rd February and end with the final on 17th March.
There are 5 teams in this season: Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz.
The teams have a total of 14 players from Australia, 7 from England, 4 from South Africa, 2 each from New Zealand and the West Indies, and 1 from the USA.
Recently, Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu, who was surprisingly not chosen in the auction, has joined UP Warriorz.
There are players of all ages, but let’s look at the top 3 youngest players in Women’s IPL 2024:
1. Shabnam MD (Gujarat Giants)
At just 16, Shabnam MD will play for the Gujarat Giants. With an impressive record in India U-19—taking 9 wickets in 9 matches—she will look to make the most of this big opportunity with her medium-pace bowling.
2. Parshavi Chopra (17 years) (UP Warriorz)
Parshavi Chopra is not new to the stage. She impressed in WPL 2023 with 3 wickets in 4 matches. With some experience now, she will aim to play more matches and make a bigger impact this season.
3. Titas Sidhu (Delhi Capitals)
The 19-year-old Titas Sidhu is already a fan favorite. She has started her T20I career strongly, taking 8 wickets in 7 matches, including 4 against Australia recently. She is expected to be a key bowler for the Delhi Capitals this season.
The Women’s IPL is an excellent platform for young girls across India. Since its first season in 2023, cricket academies have seen a rise in female players inspired to pursue their dream of playing for the country.
